    Background
    Founded during the 2001 California energy crisis, GRID Alternatives’ (www.gridalternatives.org) mission is to empower communities in need by providing renewable energy and energy efficiency services, equipment, and training. GRID Alternatives provides these services exclusively to low-income households, including families, seniors, and persons with disabilities. We install solar electric systems for low-income homeowners with volunteers and job trainees, enhancing long-term housing affordability for low-income households by reducing their energy costs, and expanding economic opportunity by providing skills and training in the growing field of solar electricity.

    GRID Alternatives’ North Valley office is looking for a Volunteer and Training Fellow SolarCorps member to join our organization to recruit and coordinate our many volunteers and provide training to volunteers and job trainees. This is an opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person to join GRID Alternatives for a one-year term. SolarCorps members will gain valuable experience in the solar and non-profit industry to help launch their career while making significant contributions to GRID Alternatives and the broader community.

    Job Duties
    • Maintain local volunteer database
    • Recruit new volunteers to assist in regional solar installations
    • Coordinate and organize volunteer communications including monthly emails, volunteer scheduling, and generally serving as the primary point of contact for the North Valley volunteer base
    • Lead volunteer orientations in Chico, Davis, Greater Sacramento, and other locations throughout the North Valley
    • Develop and maintain relationships with local job training organizations
    • Coordinate and schedule sponsored volunteer workdays
    • Cultivate individual donations from the local volunteer base
    • Assist with regional event planning and fundraising (such as our annual Solarthon event)
    • Assist in the maintenance and improvement of volunteer systems throughout the state
    • Assist with maintenance and improvement of the North Valley portion of the GRID website
    • Collaborate and support volunteer coordinators at other GRID offices
    • Other duties as assigned including but not limited to: helping outreach team with client communications, assisting Regional Director and Development Officer with fundraising initiatives, and working with media in the North Valley.

    Position Requirements
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (ability to work with volunteers, clients, co-workers, and ability to represent GRID Alternatives in a positive manner)
    • Comfortable working as part of a team
    • Strong public speaking skills
    • Flexibility and willingness to embrace change, go the extra mile, and bring ideas and energy to a rapidly growing 
    organization
    • Willingness to work on evenings and weekends at times as needed
    • Valid drivers license and clean driving record
    • Travel throughout the North Valley as well as some travel outside the region needed
    • Strong computer skills in basic office productivity applications and managing the volunteer portal

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Familiarity with online CRM database; knowledge of SalesForce a plus 
    • Experience with volunteer programs, job training programs, and/or individual and corporate fundraising
    • Passion for sustainability, affordable housing, the environment, or renewable energy, or just generally grounded in 
    making the world a better place
    • Comfort working and communicating with a diverse population

    Office Location
    Office work will be at our office located in Chico, CA. A portion of the work will be conducted at regional training and residential sites located throughout the North Valley region so some travel is required.

    Benefits and Compensation
    Hourly wage of $8.00/hr – average 40 hours per week

    End of year award with completion of the program –$3,600
